Facing the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Institute is researching maritime information and communications technology (ICT) based on artificial intelligence and “big data” technology applicable to new maritime technologies such as autonomous ships, e-Navigation, and smart ports. It also conducts research on Aids to Navigation policies.
Develop smart Aids to Navigation and related technologiesAdvance smart Aids to Navigation facilities based on multi-purpose platforms in connection with maritime ICT technology, and develop integrated information cooperation system through standardization and digitization of Aids to Navigation data.
Establish “Big Data” platform for marine safety and environmental data
Convert various collected data sets into big data to develop and provide new-concept services.
Operate Aids to Navigation performance verification testbeds to support the Aids to Navigation industry
Conduct onshore and offshore tests and evaluation of performanace and durability for the industrial Aids to Navigation equipment and supplies.
Lead international standards for Aids to Navigation and strengthen competitiveness
Strengthen research on international standards related to smart Aids to Navigation and lead standardization through IALA Technical Committee activities.
